German CSDs choose love.

CSD Deutschland e.V. is the umbrella organisation for all German Christopher Street Day organising associations, initiatives and projects. Its work consists of promoting CSDs and strengthening and supporting the individual member organisations. It sees itself as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience. It is used to formulate common demands and goals. Together with the umbrella organisation, wegewerk has developed a campaign for the upcoming 2025 federal elections that aims to unite numerous CSDs under one motto for the first time: Vote for love.

The claim with the heart in the ballot box.

The campaign was originally planned for summer 2025. After the break-up of the Ampel coalition, the challenge was to start before the upcoming new elections in February. Under time pressure, together we managed to design a campaign that is versatile and has a clear message.

Our claim ‘Wähl Liebe‘ (’Vote for love‘) stands for our goals: Activating people to vote. For diversity and tolerance. Against hatred and the shift to the right. It is a clear sign in favour of our democracy. The slogan is complemented by positive messages such as ‘Love goes through elections’ and ‘Vote for what your heart desires’.

The design task was to combine the two themes - the election and Christopher Street Day. The two L's in ‘Vote for love’ become a voting box. They frame a heart or, alternatively, a cross. A symbol that the community has now integrated into its everyday life: The ballot box is formed with the hands on social media.

The campaign colours, which are particularly effective in our large-format posters, are inspired by the spectrum of the rainbow. The colour combinations were adapted once again for the landing page in order to make it accessible.

The website offers many features: it presents all the important news, demands and content of the campaign. A party comparison shows which parties agree or disagree with the campaign's core demands - including, for example, the inclusion of queer people in the German constitution. There is also a map showing all the cities taking part in the nationwide CSD demonstration on 15 February 2025.

Final sprint to the general election.

The campaign received a lot of media attention. In addition to many small newspapers, it was discussed in the Tagesspiegel, rbb and NDR, among others. The campaign's Instagram channel also gained many followers in a short space of time and recorded a high level of engagement. On 15 February 2025, the motto will be: ‘From the first date straight to the demo!’ - The CSD movement is calling for a nationwide demonstration for democracy and diversity. Want to be there too?
